Is Everything In Place?

Writer's picture: McKenzie PerkinsMcKenzie Perkins

If you're reading this, I'm guessing the answer to that is no. Don't worry! Everything has a place, it just takes time to find it. The best part? There are no wrong answers. Organization isn't a one size fits all. Your belongings have a place unique to you. I want to help you get things in place.

Let Me Introduce Myself

Welcome! I'm McKenzie and I turned my OCD diagnosis into a super power. When I first started struggling with OCD I felt frustrated. Why did I have to be so particular with everything? If something was out of place, I wouldn't let it go until it was placed back to its home. It wasn't until I moved into my first apartment when I realized I didn't have an "illness", I had a gift. I started organizing my closets, drawers, refrigerator, etc. I even color coordinated my underwear drawer (yes, I know, very extra). Once I ran out of things to organize my own space, I moved on to my parent's house. I volunteered to tackle any decluttering project they had been putting off. I would be at a friends house looking at their closet and say "I know this is weird but... I REALLY want to organize your closet." After the confused stare they would say "Sure?", and I would be off to work. Soon enough I was organizing my friends rooms, then their parents space, then their parents friends space and so on. After organizing other peoples space, I realized that everyone has different habits which means everyones space needs to be organized differently. I love folding my t-shirts and jeans into index cards (thank you Marie Kondo) and putting them in drawers. My mom can't stand that. After putting her clothes in drawers, it took one round of laundry to realize that system was not going to work for her. So I reorganized her closet and put everything on hangers. I like to sort my hanging clothes by type then color while my friend liked her clothes sorted by length. What works for you may not work for everyone and I realized thats okay! I was quick to adapt to other people's preferences and create new systems that worked for them. After all, it's up to you to maintain your closet.

Now, I want to share my knowledge with you. I want to help you find what system(s) work for not only you but your entire household. Because keeping things organized with kids can be easy if you've got the right system in place. I'm going to share my tips and tricks with you, my favorite supplies to use, and inspiration pictures. Let's get your things In Place.
